The Dentistry Plus Cockburn Cougars have added their second restricted player for 2022, signing elite shooter Carter Skaggs for the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 West season.
Skaggs spent three years at College, and is no stranger to being a Cougar, with his time split across the Washington State University Cougars (WSU) and the UNC Wilmington Seahawks.
In his two years at WSU, the 6-foot-5 Skaggs connected at 39% from deep, including a haul of seven three’s for 26 points in his sophomore year.

“After losing a guy like Nic (league MVP Pozoglou), it was always going to be a tough gig to replace him,” head coach Andrew Cooper said.
“We helped fill that defensive hole with Paschal (Chukwu) coming in, but now with Carter (Skaggs), we get an offensive injection we know he can provide.
“I don’t watnt to sell him short because he is impactful at both ends, but it’s a big addition for us.”
Skaggs is the son of a basketball coach so found his love for the sport early, and he knows the value of community.
“I am a very laid back guy who loved being involved inside a community and spreading my love and knowledge of the game to others,” he said.
“I think I have a very unique skillset, and despite having a laid back personality, I’ve got a hard-working on court nature.
“Being able to shoot the ball at a high clip with a good sense of game awareness is something I will bring to the group.”
Cockburn Basketball Chief Executive Tyrone Thwaites echoed head coach Andrew Cooper’s comments.
“It was really disappointing to lose Nic (Pozoglou), but it was something we knew had to happen and we are very happy we have landed on our feet since,” he said.
“We were not sure whether we would get two guys out for 2022, but we managed to get it to fall into place and the Skaggs/Chukwu combination is the right balance for our group.
“Coops (Cooper) has a bit to work with alongside the core local group, which should see an exciting progression in 2022.”
“I am really looking forward to playing at an organisation clearly moving in the right direction, bringing success to the program and community, as well as getting to enjoy all the experiences of a new country,” Skaggs said.
“Australia is on every player’s bucket list, and in all conversations with Ty and Coops, it is the perfect landing spot for me.”
Skaggs is the second restricted player signing of the Dentistry Plus men in 2022, and is expected to join the group in late-March.
