The Cockburn Cougars Men hit the road to play the Geraldton Buccaneers in Round 4 of the 2022 NBL1 West season and what a game it shapes to be with both teams putting undefeated starts on the line.

The Cougars Women take the bye in Round 4 while the Men’s team makes the trip to Geraldton to take on the Buccaneers with both teams having won their first four matches of the 2022 season.

The game tips off at Active West Stadium on Saturday night from 7pm.

Cockburn is fresh off a pair of victories back in Round 3 of the 2022 NBL1 West season against the South West Slammers on Saturday night and then in overtime at home to the Goldfields Giants on Sunday.

The Buccs also scored a pair of wins in Round 3 starting on Saturday night against the Willetton Tigers and then over the Lakeside Lightning on Sunday.

That means that they both bring their 4-0 records from 2022 so far into Saturday night’s highly anticipated match up.

Going back to last weekend, the Cougars beat the Slammers 87-64 at Eaton Recreation Centre on Saturday night.

In that win, Gavin Field put up 26 points on 6/8 shooting from deep for Cockburn with Carter Skaggs adding 20 points and seven rebounds while also connecting on 6/9 from three-point territory.

Josh Hunt added 14 points, three rebounds, two steals and two blocks, Seva Chan eight points and six assists, and Paschal Chukwu six points, five rebounds and five blocked shots.

Then on Sunday they backed up at Wally Hagan Stadium and it took until overtime to end up overcoming the Giants 113-109.

Field was again brilliant in that win for Cockburn delivering 36 points, five rebounds and five assists including hitting 5/9 from beyond the arc.

Chan finished with 25 points and nine assists, Skaggs 17 points and 10 boards, Chukwu 13 points and six rebounds, and Hunt 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two blocks.

Meanwhile for the Buccs, they beat the Tigers last Saturday night 97-64 with Shaun Stewart delivering 26 points, 11 rebound and seven assists, Cameron Coleman 20 points, Malik Meunier 13 points, and Mathiang Muo 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.

And then on Sunday, they defeated the Lakeside Lightning 90-64 with Stewart putting up 22 points, Coleman 20, Muo 18 and Meunier nine.

That all sets the stage for what very well could be one of the games of the season on Saturday night between the Cougars and Buccs in Geraldton.
