The Cougar Family will enjoy watching the Cockburn Cougars play more than ever in 2024 with the announcement that seating will be added to the grandstand at Wally Hagan Stadium.

Not only will there be seating, but for the first time memberships will be made available so you can join the Cougar Family and reserve your seat. Not only can you watch on in comfort at Wally Hagan Stadium, but you will also be reassured in the knowledge of having a spot waiting for you.

It’s an exciting step forward for the Cougar Family with the chance to be foundation members of the club and it’s about much more than just simply having seating added to the grandstand.

What purchasing a membership entails to start with is that it provides you with reserved seating in the first two rows behind the Cougars bench or the scorebench. You’ll also receive foundation member seat covers along with a lanyard, membership card and 10 per cent of all online merchandise.

Not only that, but once you arrive to Wally Hagan Stadium you will get instant access to the building and not have to wait in line. Then come the end of the season, it will include priority access to playoff and Grand Final tickets.

Cockburn Cougars chief executive Tyrone Thwaites couldn’t be more proud with seeing the way the whole community has got behind the club in recent years to pack out Wally Hagan Stadium.

That was emphasised with the sold out crowds in no time for the finals last year and then even having a sold out Grand Final for the women for the first ever time at Bendat Basketball Centre.

On the home front there is a great thirst to attend matches to watch the Cougars at Wally Hagan Stadium, but equally Thwaites wants to reward those loyal to the Cougar Family by giving them the best possible experience.

That’s where the combination of being able to sit in comfort in your seat but also being able to lock away your spot for the season is the next exciting step forward.

“Over the last couple of years our home base of fans has grown exponentially, albeit in a small venue, and it’s been really pleasing that each week we’ve just about sold out at an NBL1 level,” Thwaites said.

“In particular our women’s finals last year sold out in 10 or 15 minutes so the ability for us to offer an enhanced game night  for our Cougar Fam along with a more comfortable experience, and the chance for them to secure their own seat for the season was important.

“They will also get priority for those seats come finals and we just thought it was a way to keep building the excitement around our NBL1 game nights but equally a more comfortable one as well.”

The seating is on track to be ready for the season-opening game of the Cougars against the Mandurah Magic at Wally Hagan Stadium on Thursday March 28.

Thwaites couldn’t be more excited for what the Cougar Family will be able to experience.

“The seating is going to go in before Round 1 and that will see us take on Mandurah and it’s going to be a big occasion with our maiden championship banner being unveiled for the women,” Thwaites said.

“It’s going to be a really exciting night for people to be a part of where they get to see Kirsty Whitfield walk back in and unveil the banner with myself and Jessie Edwards, and equally their first chance to see two Lynx players out on the floor together in Alex Ciabattoni and Steph Gorman.

“Then on the men’s side, it’s a great opportunity to see our import Demetris Morant along with somewhat of a homecoming for Rhys Vague out on the floor as well.

“It’s a really exciting time for our club and for us to kickstart the season the right way with people enjoying their own seats in comfort on game night to start the season.”
