From Blue to Gold: Our 2026-2028 Game Plan
Cockburn Basketball Association has officially launched its 2026-2028 Game Plan. A bold and values-led roadmap that will guide the next chapter of our Cougar community.
Titled From Blue to Gold, the plan centres on four core values – Belonging, Respect, Joy and Excellence – and provides a clear framework for culture, growth and high performance across every level of our club.
Developed over two years of listening, learning and reflection, our Game Plan reflects conversations and focus groups across all levels of the club – from athletes and parents to coaches, volunteers and board members. It combines lived experiences with clear guidance and trusted leadership, ensuring the direction of the club is both ambitious and responsible.
Rather than starting from scratch, the plan builds on what already makes our club what it is today. It protects the legacy and identity that has shaped generations while setting a bold standard for the future of the Blue and Gold.
Club President, Nina Nash said the process carried significant responsibility:
“As our club continues to grow, so does our responsibility to be thoughtful and clear about our direction. This Game Plan reflects extensive listening across our community and careful governance oversight. It exists to protect what makes Cockburn special while ensuring we grow in a way that is sustainable, inclusive and true to our values.”
The strategy is anchored by four pillars that will guide every major decision between now and 2028: strengthening our People & Place, preparing responsibly for a New Stadium, embedding Operational Excellence and delivering High Performance environments that develop great athletes and greater people.

The proposed Wally Hagan Redevelopment represents a transformational step for our club, supported by fundraising efforts and careful planning to shape the path forward.
In parallel, our club will continue to invest in its people – creating a high-performing and supported workforce. Deepening values-driven partnerships and expanding clear, aspirational pathways from grassroots competition through to NBL1, highlighted by the launch of Cougar Futures.
CEO Tia Ucich said the Game Plan is grounded in standards, not slogans.
“These values are not aspirational words – they are behavioural expectations. They guide how we speak, how we lead, how we make decisions and how we ensure a sense of belonging for every member of our community. High performance for us is not just about results. It’s about building environments where people grow, where culture and development come before wins and losses.”

Stakeholders were reminded during an initial presentation that culture does not “roll out.” It is carried – on sidelines, in car parks, in conversations and in moments under pressure. The Game Plan will only succeed if it is championed daily by the people who already shape the Blue and Gold.
The 2026-2028 Game Plan now moves from presentation to practice. It will guide strategic decisions, community engagement, fundraising efforts, workforce planning and athlete development pathways across our club.
Cockburn Basketball stands grounded in its values and ambitious for its future.
Together, we are building a club where every person can excel, be respected, feel joy and truly belong.
