In a historic moment for the Cockburn Basketball Association (CBA), we are proud to announce the appointment of our first female President, Nina Nash. This milestone marks a significant step forward in promoting diversity and inclusion within the sport, and Nina is eager to build upon the strong foundation laid by her predecessor.
“I am incredibly honoured to step into the role of President of the Cockburn Basketball Association, especially as the first female to hold this position,” she stated.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Travis French for his years of dedication and leadership that have brought this basketball association to where it is today. His commitment, along with the Board, has laid a strong foundation, and I feel privileged to now carry that work forward into an exciting future.”
As part of her vision for the CBA, the Nina is thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of a new strategic plan in 2025. This plan is poised to drive the association to new heights, with a key focus on securing a new 10-12 court stadium.
“This facility will significantly enhance opportunities for participation in basketball, one of the fastest-growing sports in the region, and will cater to our expanding community of athletes at all levels,” she explained.
“By investing in these modern facilities, we are ensuring our association remains a leader in promoting and supporting the growth of the sport.”
Ninas commitment to empowering women in sports is particularly noteworthy. She emphasised the importance of the “Play Our Way” grant, designed to remove barriers that often limit women and girls’ participation in sport and physical activity.
“This initiative will help open up pathways for girls, from grassroots involvement through domestic competitions and right up to elite programs.
“By fostering an environment where girls can thrive at every level, we are ensuring that opportunities to pursue basketball are available to all.”
In this new chapter, she will also work closely with Tia Ucich, the association’s first female CEO.
“Together, as passionate sportswomen, we are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of our athletes, creating a welcoming environment where our Cougar Family can thrive,” she stated.
As the CBA looks to the future, our new President is confident about the path ahead. “The future of Cockburn Basketball is bright, and I look forward to leading our family through this exciting chapter.”
The Cougar Family extends a warm welcome to our new President.
