COVID-19 UPDATE – Feb 5 – Return to Play

Dear Cougar Family,

In a very challenging week for Western Australians, the CBA hopes you, your family and friends have stayed well during this time.

No doubt, one of the more difficult weeks on record.

If any of our community has been impacted by bushfires, directly or indirectly, our thoughts are with you and those affected.

In addition, for all members of our community who do work on the front line during bushfires and pandemics, thank you! It is work like yours that plays a part in us returning to our normal lives.

Last night, the State Government announced how we will step out of lockdown this evening at 6pm. Based on that advice, this is what it means for our Cougar Family from tomorrow, Saturday 6 February.

All information below is based on current Government advice, and is subject to change at any stage.

SENIOR COMPETITION

Resumption of competition will be delayed for one further week. All senior competition at Wally Hagan Stadium and Melville LeisureFit will resume the week commencing Monday 15 February. The season will not be extended.

For further information, please contact Simon Petersen using simon@cougarfamily.com

JUNIOR COMPETITION

Competition will be delayed for one further week and recommence from 15 February. The season will not be extended. Further information regarding these competitions will be released towards the end of next week.

The CBA will be providing training sessions (skills based) for domestic participants through the next week. A separate email will be sent by the competitions team to each age group individually.

For further information, please contact Simon Petersen using simon@cougarfamily.com

AUSSIE HOOPS / COUGAR ACADEMY / COUGAR CUBS PROGRAMS

Will commence on their scheduled dates for term one. No participation programs are currently impacted.

More information can be found here.

For further information, please contact Simon Petersen using simon@cougarfamily.com

WABL TRIALS AND TRAINING

WABL training WILL CONTINUE this week, subject to government guidelines on mask wearing.

Athletes over the age of 12 will be required to wear masks during training (as will coaches and spectators).

This has resulted in a complete re-shape of training schedules for the next 10 days.

Full updated training schedules can be found HERE.

For further information, queries or concerns, please contact Tyrone Thwaites using tyrone@cougarfamily.com

CASUAL SHOOTING

Will be permitted from Saturday 6 Feb, provided all participants older than 12 years are wearing a mask. This also remains subject to State Government guidelines on total venue numbers.

SPECTATORS

Until Sunday February 14, all entrants older than 12 years to Wally Hagan Stadium MUST be wearing a mask. Entrants without a mask will be asked to put one on or provide an exemption, or may be denied entry.

The Cockburn Basketball Asociation is also able to cater for up to 150 people at any one time until Sunday 14 February. This will be strictly enforced.

While this delay for some parts of our association may prove frustrating, there is only one week remaining until the Association returns to normal operations (assuming all goes to plan).

We know our junior basketballers were excited about getting started in term one.

The one thing we do know though, is our community is resilient and strong enough to walk this through to the otherwise.

We really do appreciate your patience and consideration during this time, and thank you for being so understanding.

We cannot wait to have everyone back inside Wally Hagan Stadium doing what we all do best.

Should you have any questions, please reach out to the staff above or call me directly on 0430 340 666.

Take care, and stay safe.
